Profile Directive

The Card. Van Thuân International Observatory has been instituted to promote the social doctrine of the Church at an international level.
It offers information about the Social Doctrine of the Church and systematically collects data, documents and studies concerning it. It makes this information available, also on-line, to whoever may be interested in it.

Secondly, the Observatory offers reflections, evaluations, deeper analysis of the Social Doctrine of the Church in a universal, interdisciplinary context.

Finally, the Observatory informs on and supports all those initiatives which translate the social doctrine of the Church into action in various areas of society, worldwide.

The Observatory collaborates with the Bishops’ Conferences and other ecclesiastical organs, the study centres dedicated to the Social Doctrine of the Church and the appropriate international agencies.

The Observatory share the aims of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, whose mission gives a clear direction to its activities.
